We all have read about the famous Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama and how he accidentally discovered a new trade route to India. His voyage not only changed the course of trade history but also dazzled the fortune of a city that was long hidden from our eyes. The city is today proudly called as Kozhikode.

Kozhikode or Calicut is the third largest city in Kerala. Nicknamed as the ‘city of spices’ because of the large variety of spices cultivated, the city is also a birth place to hand-woven cotton. Thriving with life, this city is ideal for a relaxed family vacations and honeymooning.

Mananchira Square

This is a park situated in the heart of the city. This is where the Zamorin Kings had their palace. It derives its name from Mananchira pond which further derives its name from Manadevan, the erstwhile ruler of Zamorin kingdom. The park is surrounded by temples, churches, and a public library which has rich collection on vernacular.


Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary

It is one of the most important tourist destinations in Kozhikode. More than 60 species of migratory birds and over a 100 species of local birds are found here in this bird sanctuary. Bird watchers can different variety of birds here like gulls, sandpipers, cormorants and herons. The sanctuary is also lauded for a large variety of fish and crabs.


Pazhassi Raja Archaeological Museum

This is a museum and art gallery, exhibiting historical artefacts dated 1000 BC to 200 AD. There are toys, metal sculptures, stones, pottery items etc. from the early ages like Megalithic and Indus valley civilisation. Arms used in war by the Britishers and French soldiers are also put on a display here.


Shopping in Kozhikode

Fabric like cotton, silk and velvet are found of high quality in the markets here. Handicraft, spices, coffee, tea, rosewood items, coir made products and items made of buffalo horn are also very popular, adding charm to Kozhikode Travel.


When to Reach

October to February is the ideal time as the weather is pleasant and cool. Malabar Mahotsav in January is also a prominent time to indulge in Kozhikode Trip and learn about the cultural heritage of the state.

Kozhikode International Airport is well facilitated by multiple flight services linking it to almost all the important Indian and abroad cities. Kozhikode railways station is also linked to major cities like Mumbai and Delhi. Taxi or cab is booked from airport or station to reach the destination. Buses are available to commute within the city.
